Is it so packed that your husband simply can’t
understand why you need a new outfit? Chances are you’ve
got things in your closet that even if you could get
zipped you wouldn’t be caught dead in!
Bailes
Cobb would like to encourage you to tackle this task!
Here are a few tips to help you get started. Set aside
at least one hour to spend going through the garments
in your closet. Dress comfortably, relax, and enjoy
the experience. Begin by using five boxes or laundry
baskets which you can label - KEEP, GIVEAWAY, REPAIR,
MAYBE AND MEMORIES.
As
you remove all the garments from the closet, look over
each one to check for damages, stains, missing buttons,
etc. If the item is in good shape, fits and you still
enjoy wearing it, it’s a definite choice for the
KEEP box…
Most
of us have way too many “skinny” clothes
that have not fit for years. These are the first clothes
that should go. Why should you remind yourself of this
fact every morning? GIVEAWAY! If you realize you haven’t
worn a garment in the last year, chances are you’re
never going to wear it. You don’t like it and
have absolutely no need for it - BUT if it is in wonderful
condition, it’s a GIVEWAY. Find a friend, charity
or a consignment shop for this item or save for a garage
sale.
Anything
that is still usable but needs a button, alteration,
or dry cleaning should be in the REPAIR box. Later you
can divide these items and assign them to their proper
place for care.
If
there is something you think is okay but you haven’t
got the right matching piece or accessories, add this
to the MAYBE stack. These will need special attention
to find just what is necessary to make this a workable
part of your wardrobe. This entire box may be brought
in to Bailes Cobb and we’ll help you find a coordinating
piece or accessory.
MEMORIES
- Some of us just can’t bear to part with the
purple hip huggers we wore to see Elvis or that favorite
dress from 36 pounds ago. Closets are not treasure chests
or museums. Fold these goodies away in a box, tie it
up in a pink ribbon and store it in the attic to bring
it out for a trip down memory lane.
The
closet should now be empty and the five boxes full of
the contents. The fun part is putting it all back together
again. All those KEEPERS should be re-hung and categorized
in your closet putting pants, jackets and dresses all
in sections. Shoes should be nearby as well as handbags
and accessories for quick matching and dressing. Go
back through the MAYBE box and see what you want to
add to the closet and which things need to be moved
into the GIVEAWAY. By now you’ve seen everything
and know what’s needed. Come to Bailes Cobb and
get the things you need or simply treat your self to
a new outfit! You deserve it!
P.S.
